Description

Scotland, Highlands We came to this lonesome and unexpected manor close to the wood and hidden by trees. The dark and broken windows were staring into the rain. It was owned by the Cameron-Head family, but in 1940 it was commandeered by the War Office and used as a special training centre for the SOE (Special Operations Executive). They were responsible for training undercover agents during the war, who would then be sent off to create havoc behind enemy lines. The SOE was disbanded when the war ended, and the house was abandoned and left to crumble as a testament to a bygone age. And thanks for stopping by and all your intersting comments! ;o)

A lovely shot but what a shame it's been left to rot.

What a pity to see such a beautiful manor abandoned. It certainly was a wonderful place a long time ago. I can easily imagine great receptions with music, bals and buffets with champagne !

Ein klasse Aufnahme. Durch die diagonale Mauer ergibt sich eine super Tiefenschärfe. Die Story, die dahinter steckt, ist auch sehr interessant. Schade, daß das schöne Gebäude so allmählich zerfällt.

The SOE invented lots of ingenious, disguised explosive mines, even some that looked like cattle dung. Nowadays we call them IEDs and they tend to be used against NATO troops in Afghanistan. Sadly what's been invented can't be un-invented for our own convenience. I like you composition here.

wow if I own that house I would live there. even if it just a few rooms I use and would keep up the rest of the house to make sure windows is not broken or any thing like that. I be looking for treasures also lol. who knows what there is to find on these grounds. Or even to sell it to someone that will keep it up. Or make it into a bed and breakfast place. of course I make sure there be running water and lights here
