Description

Heater in the Pond This year I placed a stock heater in the large pond to try to maintain an open area to help with gas exchange as the surface water froze.* Happy to say it works great! *Warning ice may not be as thick as it appears

I see what you mean. Well done, the illusion is very convincing. But I do not understand the purpose of the heater. Is this a small decorative pond that goes putrid in the spring from decay? Do gas bubbles form in the ice like they do on Lake Abraham near Nordegg, Alberta?

When we lived at the Lake of the Ozarks, MO. we put a dock de-icer under the dock. It kept the water stirred so it would not freeze around the pontoons of the dock. No heat at all.

What a great idea to capture this Bruce. When I had a pond I used to float tennis balls in the water, and when you pull them out the holes were there.

It makes a great capture; what lives in the water?

Koi, large gold fish, frogs, water lilies, and other aquatic plants. The deer lay in the long grass next to it and every so often the raccoons make their way over. ...Bruce

I like it when great ideas work out. A fantastic photo and the ice looks very thick to me. I like the bull's-eye affect!

At first glance I thought it was a photo of a fried egg, which you have worked with filters ... Terrific photo!
