It looks amazing. I had a problem learning DS and gave up. I find Poser far more user friendly.

Nice work, but I could never learn how to navigate the program.

You're off to a great start. One small suggestion if I may. Learn to use the displacement maps and settings in the Surface Tab. Surface texture and lighting are your friends if you use them and use them wisely. Take your time to learn them. Keep on rockin'. Nice job and happy new year. Be safe.

For a first render in DAZ its really very good. I used to have similar problems with the native lighting in DAZ and used to export my scenes into Cinema 4D to light and sometimes re-texture. For the lighting problem, though it has some limitations I would recommend
Sunlight DS
by Vincebagna over at RDNA. It takes a little time to get used to but I have been pleased with the results and it has saved me the sometimes problematic issues of exporting files into C4D. All of my renders over the last 2-3 months have been solely inside DAZ.Helleshoj
I share your sentiment about the lights in Daz Studio. This is a good picture though. Far better than my own first image in Studio, which has been trashed long time ago. I have started to use lights, which are not Daz Studio's native lights. There are many around in the free stuff section, that give better results than what comes with Daz Studio. Some of them are settings by people who have found the trick of doing it right, others are quite different ways of lighting the scene. I started using Photo Studio Light, which gave me better results, and some IBL sets made for Poser. They translate pretty well, just need to set the intensities of the lights. Since your first render is as good as this, you should try out some of those free stuff lights and light presets.

My first daz render, ouch, ouch ouch. This is fantastic and I cannot wait to see what you render next after exploring the program more.
