Description

On the 26th of August in 2013, I was thinking of you, Harry. Not the first or last time, as I think of you often when I see a myriad of objects, fire hydrants, benches, leaves, fences, and tracks, to names just a few. And when any of these objects cast wondrous shadows you are sure to pop into my mind. On this particular day, James and I had just gotten off of a "road" that we should probably not have taken our rental car down. We were breathing sighs of relief when I saw these "Towers of Power" as you have called similar ones in your gallery. I stopped to get a picture for you. (Taken near Little Kachess Lake, in Washington.) You are a constant source of inspiration for me, Harry. Your work has broadened my horizons and affected what I see when I am out with my camera. (And at other times too, if I am paying attention.) Thank you for the inspiration, humor, and beauty you share with us in your gallery. May you day be filled to the brim with all three. Good health and a wonderful year to you. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HARRY! The latest (and marvelously geometric) "Towers of Power" in Harry's gallery is here

You really got an impressive sense of scale in this shot. I feel like I'm standing right there looking at this massive tower. When I was little (well I'm still quite short but you get the idea) I imagined an army of giants marching or migrating along these roads they made for themselves moving from one part of the world to another depending upon the time of year. Now and again they intersected with our tiny roads where we would meet but largely ignore each other. And a good thing too because giants are not to be trifled with. Of coarse the hills in the background remind us that nature can and will dwarf any and all of man's most grand designs. For in the end, that's what these towers truly are and the hills will still be their when the giants (and perhaps we who made them) have all vanished from the land.

What a touching dedication. I can see you have been a worthy student. There is considerable geometric beauty in these towers.

OMG, another one of my favorites in my extensive list of subject matter, so masterfully depicted in this awesome photograph, Lucinda. a stellar bit of silhouetting against the clouds in this sharply focused shot, my friend, and I love those background hills. These towers always offer such wonderful perspective. Thank you so much for this thoughtful birthday dedication. I am humbled by it all. This makes another year of laughs (?) under my belt. And thank you for reminding me of my countless other Tower of Power shots, yet to be posted, that I have languishing in my forgotten files.

A fantastic shot of these wires. In Denmark many of such are burried. Still no all but I think it is the intentions all over.

you picked a perfect image for Harry (and you chose a perfect Harry sample, too---it's geometric, kaleidoscopic and graced with light; beautiful choice). Here, your towers tower out of a big gorge of darkness, and into peaks and then into a high dramatic sky. I love that you let the front-most tower go up and up...if we view this from the bottom, it becomes a long journey to the top. And those little spiral-y things---I don't know what they're called, but they're the little segmented things under the right eave---our right---of each tower: I assume they're transformers of some kind...well those little things give a nice "cadence" to the long expanse of wires they're on. A kind of visual "ba-da-boom," a drum riff to end each wire properly. This is a broad sweeping capture of these metal gods---as we used to call them---with lots of sky in the shot to make them tower...Couldn't have picked a better shot for Harry, and your words are all true, as a tribute to one of our most devoted and thoughtful photographers. So---several days late---happy birthday harry, and many more in great health and inspiration! And thanks to you, Lucinda, for posting such a beautiful dedi for Harry. Another Happy New Year to you! Stay warm!
