Description

This was captured in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park on my recent visit. These critters (Ground Squirrel or in Afrikaans Waaierstert Meerkat) are very tame in the camps and would eat from your hand. This one is having a raisin! One of them has mistaken my bright pink toenail polish as something to eat and bit a little hole in my nail and at the bottom of my toe... O dear Andrew - is that why I'm foaming at the mouth!!! :):) - Just kidding! I nursed the toe and apart from a piece of nail breaking off, I've had no infection and it has healed 100%!
