Description

The work in progress continues. Here I've neutralized a bit more of the shadows and specular from the colour map for the texture, as well as got rid of the painted eyebrows and goatee, replacing them with Hair Room growth. As you can see, I'm still learning how to do that adequately. :) Most of the work here on out will involve trying to get the eyebrows and goatee looking more realistic. I may work a bit more on the facial morph too, to get a bit of an older look for the character. EDIT: By the way, I realized later that I had forgotten something pretty crucial for the hair room stuff (hair, eyebrows and beards). Hair room props come in at a default shading rate of 8.0, which is absurd (I really wish I could set my own defaults). Anyway, I've changed all my settings to 0.2 now. Will post version 4 soon....

The skin and the eyes look great! Sadly the hair always seems to be the least believable item unless you do a lot of photoshopping.

The portrait is gorgious. On the hair the specular colour seems to be too bright. Try to set it to something around these values: red - 0, green - 10, blue - 20. This will produce a blueish glow. Then you decide wheather it should be brighter or not only by changing the value in the hue - sat - val column of the colour selecting window.

Thanks for your comments, hilmarion. While I definitely agree that the beard and eyebrows have way too much spec here, if there's too much on the hair it's not by much (relatively speaking), although that's certainly not to say that I'm satisfied yet with the material settings. Real-world beards and eyebrows don't seem to shine as much as hair on the top of the head. BTW, where have you observed that hair in real life usually has bluish glow?
