I am a developing artist working on improving my abilities to create beautiful digital landscape compositions. Without the help and suggestions of the many fellow artists in this community, it would be a long time before I reach the next level.
BIO
I am a retired procurement professional who has long had an interest in photography and painting; and, lately in computers and photorealistic natural landscapes. I hope to become more proficient and perfect my abilities to produce acceptable work. My experience in art started at a very early age when I would spend many hours sketching and painting. I had instruction at The Art Institute in Chicago, Illinois. I did some freelance work for Flying Models, Model Airplane News and Top Flite Models creating plans and illustrative construction sequences for magazines and kit models. I had spent more than 20 years designing, building and flying radio controlled model airplanes...a very rewarding hobby for me. During the 1970s, I spent 11 years in the hobby of "bonsai"; the Japanese art of miniature trees. In my first 7 tree entry in a contest, all 7 trees were awarded ribbons in various categories. Japanese landscaping became a passion for me where I completed a 3 year project creating a Japanese landscape around my home in Oak Forest, Illinois. I also did this work for several other people in our community. In 1987 I moved to Phoenix, Arizona where I currently make my home. The love of the American southwest and all its beauty is where I wanted to spend the rest of my life. Now that we have computers, digital cameras; and, Terragen; I'll have enough to do for a long, long time.

Gorgeous Image,
Thelby
I think you nailed it with this one, Bob! The mist at the bottom of each stage is a Great Creative Step, too!!!

Beautiful image! Love the mist from the waterfalls. Gorgeous lighting. Corrie

what a surprise and you managed it successfully! can imagine that it took a long time to get it like it looks now! the steam between the tress is gorgeous and realistic! the seond part of the fall for my taste is to straight and water filss the whole space, its a bit to consistent, and I have the feeling this mountain has the wrong size for the fall and may be I am wrong, never saw a waterfall where there are no plants at the rocks? but I know you will mange it all in your next tries! I know it! ;o)

Thank you Rita. For as much time as I've spent on this image, I am not pleased with it. I should have used a different terrain. There is much to be learned when creating these falls; and, I will try another scene soon.

Very nicely done. I like the mist also. The bottom falls seems to be cut a little too sharply in places to look real (IMHO). But I admire your talent and persistence in getting this image. Wish I could do half as well.

Thank you Lyla. I will begin another waterfall scene soon. This one could have been better had I chosen a better terrain. I think the next will be more of a close up point of view.

I've been thinking about doing a waterfall for a while now...so far no go :-( But still, this image has a lot going for it. The POV is great...it gives the mountain a very grand and majestic, sort of Yosemite, kind of look. I also like the idea of the two step waterfall...very ambitious! The mist is really well done as well. With this experience under your belt I have a feeling your next waterfall render is going to knock our socks off! Great work Bob!

Thank you Pete, I appreciate your comments. I just started another version with a new terrain. The fellow that has really been a great help to me is 'Dune' who has the best handle on Terragen 3 of anyone I know. He continues to experiment has has come up with a number of ways to create waterfalls. I'll be working on the new project for awhile and hopefully come up with something better.

Fantastic first Bob! Can't wait to see more!

Nicely done Bob, I'm sure this is the first of many....the best is yet to come....I love waterfalls....keep on man!

Thanks Mark, these things are not the easiest thing to create (for me anyway). But, I must keep trying till I can get what I expect.

Bob, I think for your first waterfall it is really fantastic and I can imagine how much work it must be. But I am sure you will get better and better.
