Description

Various and sundry Xings, depicting the result of years of relentless traffic pounding, captured between 12/3/13 and 1/20/14, very early in the morn, in and around the neighborhood. There are still more pics of this particular subject matter scattered about in my old folders. If past postings are any indication, you know I just love to photograph corrosion, decay, deterioration, erosion and oxidation. Remember to ZOOM. Adjo.

Very nice collection of photos, Harry. Many people appear to have traveled over these paths

You should be sending these to the city works department; lots of evidence of the potential for lawsuits by people tripping over the broken pavement! But what a wonderful collection of cracks and worn paint in sun and shadow, Harry. And I think you must have the longest legs of any known human, judging by your shadow!

You would think with our taxes as high as they are are streets would look a little better than that.

Well Harry, I'm going on 2 hours now, plus the hour earlier in the morning; and, as much as I regret it, I have to stop now. But there are others waiting for me---your recent succulents, for example---and I'll be back. But this is a great place to end. And yes, this was where Denise said "I think you must have the longest legs of any known human, judging by your shadow". Lol. But, as in the train shot (with your shadow), the shadow becomes part of the shot. In the 4 images here, you move from longer to very close view (montage-sense); and you begin and end with a bang. The first reminds me of your last train shot---4 uploads before---because of the variety of hues, the richness of the light, and how your shadow joins the fugal counterpoint of everything else. It's really beautiful, a street-montage of the mind with real pastel sweeps and a very intense "top" (ie, the buildings, etc). 2 and 3 are low angle perspective shots, with intense light-hits atop, one to the right and the other to the left. (Nice montage-work again.) Love the way the light splashes up in the corner; and, also, the blue shadows, esp of number 2. And the last one is an ultra detailed, eye-popping study of street texture mixed with those big furrowed stripes. With a patch of blue on top that's almost ultra-violet. And through all of them? Decay, cracks and crevices, in real relief and breaking up the geometry into the multitudinous-ness of nature. The whole collection is extremely energetic and electric: Only you, on RR, make something as 'pedestrian' as street surfaces look like aerial views from National Georgraphic. Terrific, Harry. I'll be back for more soon, but I think I got 14 today, all of them a true pleasure...
