Description

This magnificent double stone called Grey Whethers circle is located at the foot of Sittaford Tor on a bridge of land between a pair of valleys formed by tributaries of the North Teign River to the north and the East Dart River to the south. Standing 4.5 metres apart, the northern circle consists of 20 upright granite slabs forming a circle of about 32 metres in diameter while the southern circle has 29 stones and is slightly larger at 33 metres. A survey of the site in 1879 gave their diameters as 31.6 metres (north) and 35.5 metres (south), this difference being could accounted for by the fact that the circles were restored in 1909. Taken a few years ago on Dartmoor, Devon,

It's very exciting to see these. Our ancestors were very busy with this sort of thing. while in comparison we are couch potatoes.

This image conjures up many imaginings in my mind and I wonder what these places were truly used for and how were the lives of the people at that time. Thank you for sharing this photo and information with us Pat. ♡

I can't say I agree with Andrea...the couch looks more interesting unless they leave a reason for all the aimless activity.

Now here's the real truth about those; Thousands of years ago, aquatic aliens landed on earth and left those stones as a mathematical puzzle to let us know when they would be back to enslave the human race and take us back to their underwater lair and make us serve them salted pickled mackerels on silver trays. We're doomed I tell you, doomed. - it's true, yea.
