Description

An apparently abandoned house along the Metolius River, whose rough wood exterior is undergoing a natural transformation similar to that of a living tree. My wife & I have a kind of running disagreement which has developed into a joke over the years. When I see an appealing landscape (or any subject, for that matter), my first instinct is to take as unobstructed a view of it as possible. She always prefers to have a tree (or at least a branch or two) in the foreground to break up landscapes. I eventually came to a kind of middle position - I have come to appreciate the appeal of both ways of shooting landscapes, depending on the circumstances - but I still argue for the unobstructed view just for fun. In this case, the trees in this photo were so close to the house that I couldn't get very much of the house or surrounding landscape without including them, so I consciously tried to find a way to incorporate them as visual elements in as appealing way as possible... Please zoom.

I can hardly believe anyone would abandon such a lovely place in the woods. But, it does make dor a cool photo.

I always thought you were supposed to peel the logs to keep insects out of your house. A beautiful shot!

The trees really add to the appeal of the house in this shot; I'm with your wife on this one! The whole makes a very lovely composition. And if that house is abandoned maybe I should find it and move in!

Great textures here! So why don't you each take your own photos?

My wife isn't really interested in taking photos - she just likes to tell me how to do it!

You did a great job with the trees, despite it not being your natural style. You got a nice progression of placement and distance. Well done! So ... does A. like this pic? I do. :)

I like all of the textures in this photo - both trees and the house. I started out with only shooting unobstructed views especially in national parks. I have been known to wait for all of the people to move out of the scene before taking my photo. BUT with age comes lack of patience and I am slowly switching over to your wife's POV! Maybe I am just spending less time in National parks - who knows!
