Madonna della Libera - Church - Middle Aisle (Navata Centrale) Built over a period of time between 1000-1100, the temple even today, by many studies, has many gray areas in its history, among them also the exact date of the building. It was built with the typical local "soft" travertine that many centuries later will be used for the construction of the new Cathedral of Aquino and using among other things, the most numerous of the fragmentary material remains of Roman buildings that surrounded the place where was rising. "The strangest jumble of antiquity is seen worked in the construction of a temple." In fact, scattered in the walls of the church, you can see numerous exhibits also significant archaeological interest and documentary. Fragments of marble of great size, inscriptions, metopes, cornices, tomb reliefs, some even in the interior walls, give the whole atmosphere of great beauty. Eretto in un arco di tempo tra il mille e il millecento, il tempio ancora oggi, da svariati studi, presenta molte zone d’ombra nella sua storia, tra queste anche la data esatta dell’edificazione. E’ stata costruita con il tipico travertino “morbido” locale che molti secoli più tardi sarà usato anche per la costruzione della nuova Cattedrale di Aquino e usando tra l’altro anche il numerosissimo materiale frammentario dei resti degli edifici romani che circondavano il luogo in cui stava sorgendo. “La più strana accozzaglia di antichità vedesi adoperata nella costruzione di un tempio”. In effetti, disseminate nelle mura della chiesa, si notano numerosi reperti anche di rilevante interesse archeologico e documentario. Frammenti di marmi di grande dimensioni, epigrafi, metope, cornici, rilievi tombali, alcuni anche nelle pareti interne, conferiscono a tutto l’insieme un’atmosfera di grande suggestione.
