Description
Digna in folk costume @ a sjezenrijden (chay/shay/carriage-riding, how would you call the thing??) event.
which is 'ringriding', while sitting in an -antique- 'sjees'. traditional costumes are the dress code.
the 'zeeland' costume differs on all the 'islands', even from village to village, ('Walcheren' here). the old! people, that dress 'on their farmers', as they call it, on a daily base, are almost extinct by now.
but the bling they wear is hip nowadays.
these costumes are mostly inherited and often over 100 years old. as is the jewelry.
the majority of these people (with 'room for a pony' ;-D) are of 'farmer nobility', as I call it. the richer the farmer, the more gold n the bigger the gadgets were.
wanna see something really bad??
(there are at least 2 skirts, all attached with pins, but some dress the easier way?)

(his website vanished) see that dreaded pic on top!
he's a pro photographer (Nikon D4 FYI) n sells this pic of the girl in her 'panty socks' as a card... a lot! ;-)
(I would have pressed the shutter too! LOL but would never show it around, not even here)
there is an old saga about the 'round (drinking-) well' in this -former- village, about a girl that mixed the milk she sold with water, so she could buy golden 'curls' to replace the copper ones she was wearing.
when she past the well and gazed at her reflection in the water, the well swallowed the new golden 'curls'...
but 'well', there are more eerie stories (and places?) 'here'... ;-D

Terrific POV, focus and ancestor ambiance in this shot, Angie, but, gosh-o-golly, do people still dress and live that way in your country? Reminds me of the Amish in America.

It reminds me also of the Rickshaws one can find in South Africa, Asia and Indonesia ... ;) but it's actually only the minority, who wears these 'Trachten' costumes - but it's still nice to keep the old tradition somehow alive, for us to admire, you won't find anything like this here in 'OZ' and thanks for the links, so very interesting.
