Description

A heavy bombardment epoch on Tarsis Majoris left the Labyrinthium Valles scarred with craters. The force of the impacts, caused magma deep in the crust to rise and uplift Tithonium Planitia, just beyond the Mangala Fossae range. Beneath the valley were ancient fissures and lava tubes. This is where explorers discovered massive opal deposits. Many thanks to Varian for his fabulous Brycetopia Cities and tutorials & to The European Space Agency for an awesome collection of Mars Digital Elevation Maps.

An interesting contrast from the rocky, worn surface and the beautiful opal beneath. Good sci-fi.
