Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Wonderful bright light on a cold day is uplifting itself but a beach walk in it, with your camera cannot be beaten! Superb!

I love both of the photos and I see there was lots of salt spray in the air too! Hope you wiped your camera down afterwards.

Wow .. so beautiful .. you've even got the spray so clearly! I think of the two, I prefer this one, no distractions from the waves.

Both are beautiful photos Andrea and I love how the wind is catching the tops of these high rollers!

I had to comment on this because I live off a lake that makes waves like this whenever there's a wind. My lake is a pin-prick compared to your ocean, and only gets waves with weather. But I've seen waves like these enough to feel totally at home with them, and you caught them beautifully. The dark under-waves are capped by those beautiful chiffon caps, the foam is caught as wisps, and the calm waters in front are like smooth rippled glass (as pre-wave calm waters always look). In fact you have almost 3 pics here: If you crop off 2/3 of the sky, it's about the ocean, in 3 layers, with a dab of sky on top. If you crop off much of the calm waters, bottom, you have a dialogue between waves and clouds---which move in concord with the waves. And if you leave it as it is, you have the 3 worlds often seen in wavy shores: The sky, with its own waves, the big waves themselves, and the calm waters in front. Dramatic and soft at the same time, a beautiful capture. And it feels very very familiar to me...
