Description

This cleverly built chicane slows down the water pouring into Coy Pond from the Bourne Stream on Talbot Heath, preventing it scouring a channel during the flood season, as now. I have never seen it quite so furious!

By the looks of it, no wonder you were baffled by the usually placid Bourne Stream, as it unleashed its ferocity on Coy Pond, A.

Great capture Andrea, looks like white water rapids, seems all rivers and streams are full at the moment.

The bottom baffle is almost being overflowed by the rushing water. I have seen these out of poured concrete but never brick. Maybe this is hundreds of years old. I like the rough water passing down the troth!

Unusual material for such a demanding job, usually reinforced concrete is deployed. The brick layers can fracture and the bond cement erode! Its an exciting shot though!

Great idea but I bet the water will get the better of It one day, two of the villages I drive through were flooded the other day fortunately mostly in the road. While waiting my turn to go through a deep bit I got my camera out to take some pictures, FLAT BATTERIES, that will teach me to charge it.

Awesome picture of wild water! Wonder if something like this would slow our creek down when there's furious rains, or rapid snow melts.
