Description

Last Thursday brought not only cold temperatures but snow. due to the possible inclement conditions and all the hills we have, the schools closed and So did Treasure House. On my way home, I stopped on the Washougal River Bridge and snapped a couple pictures of the ice floating down the river. At the time of this photo session, it was a balmy 19F with a wind-chill temp of 1F.

Super shot. It is very rare that we get ice floating down the rivers over here. We have had incessant rain this winter and a lot of floods which you may have seen on your news bulletins.

Thanks for the sitemail about your normal weather patterns out there Mike. I tend to forget that your part of the country, though northern, is more of a rainforest type of climate. Because of your northern local I tend to think you guys get similar weather as we here in NE, but you don't. Funny. I never stopped to think that seeing ice floating down the river would be uncommon to you. I really NEED to get out there to the north west and see it for my self. It has always been one of the highest on my "wish to visit" list. It looks so BEAUTIFUL on TV and in movies and pictures. I would LOVE to hitch up my fifth wheel and travel out through Montana on to Washington and Oregon. sigh Maybe some day.

What strikes me more than the coldness is the clarity of the water. It seems so clean and clear. The biggest river around here is the Missouri, and on a good day you can see to a depth of 6 inches.... all the rest is muddy. A great capture, Mike!

"It was a balmy 19F with a wind-chill temp of 1F." So, summertime in the Northwest? Did you see the icebreaker that did this? A very cool capture.

I doubt there's any open water around here .. Well, maybe the Niagara River and the Falls of course, and down the road a bit is Lake Ontario, that's pretty deep so it might be open away from shore. Lake Erie is pretty much frozen over. Gorgeous photo .. It's pretty unusual for you to have weather this cold, isn't it?
