Why oh why did I wait SO LONG to start playing around with HDRI Skydomes???!!! This is 'HDR ProSets Yosemite Pack Two' and DzFire's Maximum Madness with Maximum Destruction textures from DAZ. Rendered in Poser Pro 2012 using the Firefly renderer. I made a couple small mods to the texture and there's only a little bit of post work in Photoshop.
There's one weird aberration in the rendering that I don't know how to fix. It's not there in the model, only in the render. I imagine it is some arcane thing one needs to know but I haven't figured it out yet. Can you spot it?
: : : Check it out in FULL SIZE!!!! : : :

I presume you mean the line going through the air intake. I would probably go the lazy way and do a separate render without the car and then PS the images together. Really excellent render - or are you trolling us and is this really a photo?

Excellent render! Had to look hard to be sure it wasn't a photo :D

Excellent, I would like to know about Skydome.

Hi Bebopdlx, If you search "dome" here on renderosity you will find some, like: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/flinks-sky/80116/ and the one I used was from DAZ3d.com, search "yosemite" and you'll find: HDR ProSets Yosemite Pack One and HDR ProSets Yosemite Pack Two They are pretty easy to use. You load the skydome like you would load any object and then your display will be of the scene that your skydome provides (most have a variety of optional images to choose from). This loads a dome with an image on the inside. They usually have a ground plane for catching shadows, and it lets the ground of the scene show through that your object casts realistic shadows onto. The domes come with lights that are set to match your chosen skydome image so the 3D objects you introduce into the scene are properly lit by kind, angle and intensity of light. When you render you see your object(s) in this real world scene with 360 degree view so that shiny things on your model will have reflections as if a real object in a real environment. (Look at the reflection on the side of the car in my image above. See "D44"? Now notice the tree reflections along that line - AWESOME!). You can select the skydome object and rotate it on the Y axis to pan around the 360 degree image and to move the light on your object (i.e. your object lit from front, behind, or side). It really is easier than it sounds!!! The results can be stunning. Good luck!

Also, if you go look at the promos (3rd small image from the left under the main image) for Flink's Sky dome, http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/flinks-sky/80116/ there is a really good picture explaining skydomes.

That is awesome!!

That line extends from the windshield to the far right edge of the render. I believe if you rotate the skydome along the x or z axis and or move the lights or camera slightly you may clear things up. Other than that, this is one gorgeous image. I love it. Of special note, the chrome wheels came out with a beautiful, deep, rich reflective shine. Nice job!

Hi Greywolf44, Oh wow! I didn't even notice that horizontal black line until you mentioned it! I was originally talking about the aberration in the air intake (chrome goes all dark and distorted). I checked this in a different render and some did it and some did not. I also had the weird distortion happen on a StoneMason product before. The gun barrel looked like it was plastic that had been melted and stretched to a thin, thin line in the middle. It turned out it was some setting (either diaplacement maps, or maybe in the raytracing - I don't recall now). But thanks for looking close enough to spot that horizontal line! I'll probably just take that out in Photoshop as I am very, very pleased with the placement of the background in regards to the model. i.e. the rocks and dirt near the front tire - WOW! I am super impressed with the Yosemite HDR kit! Thanks for taking a look, and for taking the time to comment.
