Description
The Peggy Guggenheim Collection is a modern art museum on the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy. The museum was originally the private collection of the American heiress Peggy Guggenheim, who began displaying the artworks to the public seasonally in 1951. After her death in 1979. it passed to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, which eventually opened the collection year-round. The collection is housed in the Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, an 18th-century palace, which was Guggenheim's home. Since 1985, the United States has selected the foundation to operate the U.S. Pavilion of the Venice Biennale, an exhibition held every other summer.

a remarkably different structure from FL Wright's Guggenheim structure in Manhattan. (A structure I've been in many times, and gotten a tad dizzy in, even though it's visually quite impressive.) I've seen pictures of this many times, and am familiar with the Guggenheim name in the art world. Your pic emphasizes it as a home, esp as you have those boats in front, in sweet counterpoint to the line of the facade---very nicely chosen, placed, composed. And the three standing heads move in a diagonal, up, from lower right to upper left. The whole piece is nicely composed...and your history places the museum into a historical context. Plus, your saturated hues, and your bringing out the pinks of the facade, make this is a very hue-laden capture, giving it a lot of symbolic life and uplift. And we can see the embossed title "Peggy Guggenheim Collection" to the far right (nice inclusion). A disarming image of the museum, making it seem like a home; and the boats and people in front make it very familiar rather than monumental. Fine juxtaposition of cultural elements. I really like this angle and capture of the building... Sandra, I'll be back for more. It's been an hour since I started here, and I have to shut down the computer to do other things right now. (I'll probably put up an upload, but that takes minutes.) I'll do more of this series when I return. I always love taking journeys with your mind, scholarly background and visual sense. And nice to do it with this beloved and amazing city...
