------------- The Chronicles of Taure – Amanda
The lithe Elf all but danced through several Orcs, taking them down with single blows, yet she did not seem to be that strong or skilled. When the last fell by Hayden’s axe, Lorren took stock. Jamie was the only one hurt, though her wounds were not deep. The others were bruised and bloodied, but in good enough shape to continue on. That’s when Lorren approached and hailed the elf maid. Her response was to ignore him and speak in her native tongue to Nelly. The two struck a quick conversation, though it seemed lost on at least half their number. Lorren rolled his eyes and sighed overly loudly. Nelly smiled, as did Hayden and Jamie.
“I see ye speak the Elven tongue, Hayden. I expect no courtesy from Jamie or Nelly, but could ye please tell us all what’s goin’ on?”
Hayden snickered, “It seems our elf maid visitor wants to know what right we have slaughtering the Orcs she was hunting.”
“And I suppose she thinks she could take them all by herself.”
The Elf shot a hateful stare at Lorren. Though he’d thought to speak to a fellow Edan in their native tongue, he’d decided to speak in Anglan instead. Apparently the elf understood.
“I am perfectly capable of dealing with a few nuisances in the wild. Perhaps you should remember that, Edan.”
“And I suppose yer an expert in dialects and inflection, are ye? Ye know I’m Edan by my accent?”
Hayden shook his head, “Uh, No. ‘Edan’ is just the Elven word for ‘Human’.”
“Ah. I see. So, she offers insult when she should be asking for aid.”
“What aid could I need from the likes of you, Edan?”
“A bit of healing fer starters? Brian there is a right handy priest.”
The Elf’s mood softened, but only slightly. “Thank you, but no. I have my own herbs for such things, and I too am a cleric.”
“I’ve not seen many clerics who could handle a bow as you. Are ye sure yer not a Druid?”
“I am Amandil Taurthelys, daughter of Thovan, priestess of the Seldarine and Ranger.”
Lorren raised an eyebrow. A noble perhaps? A young elf maid princess set out on her own to thumb her nose at her father?
Hayden interrupted. “What brings you so far from Aesmyr, Aina' er?”
The elf almost smiled, “You speak Angwaith? Though your accent could use some work. You men of the west all have such a strange tongue. But yes, I am from Aesmyr. Yet I am but an acolyte, freshly minted and off on my first An’lema.”
Lorren turned his head and smirked at Hayden. The tall blond responded.
“An’lema,… uh, ‘long journey' is the literal translation, I think. It’s kind of an Elven warrior’s rite of passage. They go off in search of adventure and glory, to return home honored warriors.”
