Ok, as always, Ilove to see if I can do something from, in this case Lightwave, in Carrrara. My previous post was in LW and that looked good I think.
But,
Can I make astroids with impact craters, a starburst, a asteroid belt with what I know if Carrara. Yes. Pretty simple. and I was able to embellish it a bit. and I've posted a short animation of the asteroids and ship flying through it.
Which looks better in your opinion? The previous one is here:

I like it! Great animation too, I like the way the asteroids are tumbling slightly. See, anything you can do in Lightwave, you can do in Carrara!

Thanks, I thought it came out well too. seems like just learning new techniques (in what ever program) improves my abilities in Carrara.

Excellent. I like the Carrara version better: It's more interesting dramatically and more epic in scope. Though, I really like the star in the lightwave version. (Seems to me there's a great tutorial on the web about making a realistic photosphere and I think 90% of it worked in Carrara.)
