Description

Well following all the upheaval of the last few months a time of transition has arrived. Karen and I gave up our home of 24 years and moved in with my Father in Law on 22nd December last year.He was in hospital and constant care was a condition of his being allowed home. We moved the bare essentials of our life into our new home, not wanting to disturb his familiar surroundings, but the bulk of our possessions went to charity or the tip.Following several set backs Peter was allowed to come home on 13th February and the scale of the task in hand became apparent. Karen had already given up her position as Assistant Manager at the bowling alley and gone part time as a Duty Manager. Disturbed and sleepless nights began to tell on both of us as Peter's health went quickly down hill..( medical staff had warned us this would be the case). During the night of February 24th / 25th he slipped into a coma and at 8:30pm on 26th he passed away, Karen, her Brother and his Wife were sitting with him at the time. It's hard to say he and we were 'fortunate' but is was quite quick and he was in no pain, his only wish was to die in his own bed, he was granted that. The process of 'sorting things out' is under way, the funeral is next week after which I plan to take Karen away for a few days. The picture is our new friend, since moving in Karen and I have often sat in the garden and been joined by Mr (?) Robin. He gets the crusts from breakfast toast and we've put out fat balls and bread. He nests in a bush at the end of the garden and is always around if we go out, we can approach when he is feeding and he doesn't fly away, he seems happy to pose for a photo too..... Well that's my news for now, hopefully, in the next few weeks, life will return to some sort of normality and as I've heard so often in the last week "life will go on "...... On a side note....I've heard from Luis (Tryphon), if anyone has noticed he's been rather quiet on Rendo of late. This is due to his being in hospital, I hope you will join me in wishing him all the best for a speedy and successful recovery......

This past year has been such a time of upheaval for you and Karen. I hope 2014 brings back a more solid foundation under your feet, and that you settle into your new/different life easily. Having this lovely bird as a neighbor is a huge plus! :) Take good care, my friend. You and Karen will be in my thoughts.

Condolences my friend. I wish you and Karen nothing but the very best for this year. His memory will live on each time you think about him and smile. Maybe, just maybe, he sent the robin to you ......... ?

What a beautiful photo! He seems to be quite tame, allowing you the time and closeness to take it. Such a beautiful little fellow. I wonder what he's thinking and feeling? Thanks for the news about your father-in-law. It's a pity you had to move and quit jobs, get rid of your own home, etc., only to have him die so soon afterwards. You and Karen are fantastic people to give so much at the last moments of his life. I greatly respect you for it. How many today would do such? You both deserve a good vacation. I know how much you have helped father-in-law through the time of his illness. Thanks for the update. Do let us know how things are working out for you. All my best to you and God bless! :-)

I can but echo everyone else's' sentiments. My condolescences to Karen and yourself, that was some personal sacrifice to make, but for all the right reasons. Enjoy the break away. A great photo, and things happen for a reason... every time you see a Robin now, that will remind you of Peter. My Nana had one that used to come into her kitchen in NW London for some tidbits...I thought it was keeping an eye on her, after my Grandad passed away!.

I am both sad and glad for you and Karen. Sad for the loss, but glad that you were able to be there for her father and allow him to die comfortably in his home. I sincerely hope that the coming weeks will bring healing and a clear path for your future. The robin will always be special for you as the cardinal is for my mother. One came to her minutes after my father died at home and she swears it looked like it was telling her everything would be alright. Hopefully Luis will get better soon and be back to creating great stuff again.

My heartfelt sympathy Neil to both you and Karen. I lost my Father so many years ago but the happy memories are still with me every day. You made many changes for Peter but that's what we do for the ones we love. Take care my good friend.
