Description

Princes Bridge, originally Prince's Bridge, is an important bridge in central Melbourne, Australia that spans the Yarra River. It is built on the site of one of the oldest river crossings in Australia. The bridge connects Swanston Street on the north bank of the Yarra River to St Kilda Road on the south bank, and carries road, tram and pedestrian traffic. The present bridge was built in 1888 and is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register. The building in the background is The Melbourne Cricket Ground. The Yarra is often called 'The river that run's upside' because of it's unique colour!

Hey Andrew, I just seen someone jump off that bridge! I guess it is well known. Outstanding photo to be serious for a second. Stan

Fine perspective. Lots of interest to see in the bridge design...and I did spot the stadium in the distance!

I do remember the bridge so well, crossing it many, many times - usually during my lunch hours, way back in the 70's ;)) starting from the Mobil-Oil building with the big white Pegasus statue outside ... and I wonder, if that still exists ??? - thanks for the memories ! BB

Built in 1888 - it looks like it was just built. Someone is doing a great job maintaining this bridge! A beautiful zoom to see the Cricket Grounds!
