there actually was a glass covering but you really had to look to see it. So I have been experimenting with glass setting to find something that renders well and does not take forever ... behold "Mapps Materials" Glass #9. Although I assure you it took allot more then 9 tries to get it ... lol but it is called Glass 9 in my new material set. Will post a new freebie soon. Though anyone who purchases my sets always gets an updated version included in the set.
this glass looks pretty good and does not increase render time at all. I'm Quite Happy with it :-)

I can't tell what those glowing things are supposed to do other than look strange. Form follows function to an extent even in science fiction. Considering the environment I would more expect to see mechanical things than electrical stuff. just a suggestion.
