Description

So as promised my friends and I put on our climbing crampons and we did get out onto frozen Lake Abraham! This is one of the reasons why Lake Abraham is so magical and so spellbinding that it attracts photographers from all over the world. Here we see waves frozen in motion! Nobody really knows how this all works. Some say it the extremely strong winds combined with a sudden drop in temperature cause the waves to freeze on the spot. Others think it has to do with differential melting caused by warm winds. Whatever, it is really spooky. When some one else is out on lake and standing in these bare patches it looks like they playing Jesus and are walking on water. Sometimes the whole lake is bare of snow and this goes on for miles and miles. You can see a massive crack in the left side that runs for 100s of meters. These can be the danger zones... especially when they are snow covered and you cannot see them. You always try to walk on bare ice even though it is easier to walk on the snow. My photos do not do this scene justice but it gives you an idea of the effect.

Wow – awesome patterns I love the close-up to infinity perspective. The patterns are really organic looking – no leading lines in this image :)
