Definitely a fungus, called a puffball. We have a variety here which can grow as big as a small sheep and makes a great meal is picked young, sliced and fried in butter.

Yep I agree. Bovista plumbea is the official name. Mayby you could expose some less and use something to light up the deep shadows to make a nicer photograph. In my camerabag is always a piece of white shinny plastic. And try to remember the one third rule for a better compo with incoming lines.
