On Aviation and Photography:
"You haven't seen a tree until you've seen its shadow from the sky." -- Amelia Earhart
“You don't take a photograph, you make it.” - - Ansel Adams
UPDATED: September 19, 2010
Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

A lovely tree shot and a beautiful sky to set it off.

Very interesting. Living in a swamp area like that has always sounded just a little scary to me.

My! Are those still standing after hurricane Katrina? Wonderful! Thanks for the info! It's funny how a 24 mm. lens can put the lean on everything. Could you get so close so you could touch the moss? I've always wondered what it feels like. This must look like a ghost sailing vessel in the dark of night. Keep up the good work. :-)

As Mike says, it looks like the houseboat is leaning---well maybe that's just nature taking its course, the wood giving way, the structure moving with age...A rich capture of a central drooping tree (drooping from the moss) and all the bare trees around it, fronted by that deep brown river---silt I assume---and that wonderful tilted old houseboat (with an air conditioner---love that detail!!). It all seems to be leaning towards the central tree---which, itself, is like someone who was caught in a ticker tape parade and hadn't bothered to clean off yet. (Or like it crawled out of the swamp and hadn't bothered to clean off.) You and Tara have seen magical mystical sights in this part of the country; and both of you have captured its feel in your images. (I was there years ago, and never got its images out of my mind. I was also in N.Orleans, and remember---even now---the magic of that city...none other like it on earth.) The brown water grounds the image really well, it's so earthy and deep in appearance...

This is a wonderful shot. Kathy told me they looked at this one and rediscovered the beauty of their surroundings. Nice, huh? :)

Stellar capture, Bill! I like the whole composition and subject matter, especially the cypress tree, typical of the Louisiana Cajun swamps.
