Description

It took us an hour to hike only 4 km carrying our camera gear to reach the famous Siffleur Falls but it was well worth it. In the summer this is a popular hike but in mid-winter my friend and I had the entire area to ourselves. It was incredibly quiet and peaceful as we were the only two persons in the entire wilderness area. The blue color is real and not from processing. The river is fed from springs which have a high copper content and so are blue. What is amazing beside the color is the structure of the frozen falls with the massive hanging icicles and the rounded knobs. Truely a winter fay wonderland. You can see the water is still falling behind the ice sheet as there is a cascade at the base.

In looking at this amazing picture, I can just imagine how it sounds like during the spring run-off..the water crashing and cascading down. Here , though is just the silence of Winter.

Beautiful capture – but it look like a treacherous area for hiking!

Wow! That is really cool! What a great angle too. Beautiful and have never seen anything quite like that. Instantly takes me to thoughts of glaciers. However the surroundings really give it a fey mood. One thing I did like about all the snow recently was how peaceful and quiet everything was, especially at night. Excellent capture.

Truly spectacular. Granted that you had some great raw material to work with, your composition & postwork turned it into a photographic masterpiece that would be right at home in an art gallery or a fine nature photography book...

What a gorgeous shot, Roxy! You definitely have a higher tolerance for cold than do I. Although to see and photograph this, I would seriously consider taking off my wuss cape, and trade it for some thermal underwear... That blue color is just gorgeous.

I'm blown away by this phenomenon. I adore waterfalls, this one would be beautiful anytime of the year, and I've never seen anything quite like this!

Never gets quite that cold here. Great shot, and congrats on being picked for LWITG. Love the different textures and that blue ice is wonderful.
