Description
The "Thingstätte"* was built in 1934 by the nazis. The stage should be used mainly for propaganda events. But soon the Nazis lost the interest in the construction, since the radio represented a more effective tool for disseminating propaganda. After WW II the Thingstätte broke more and more.
Meanwhile, the construction is a listed building and is used from time to time for open-air concerts.
Every year in the Walpurgis Night (1 May) thousands of people come to the Holy Mountain and celebrate a feast. It is the largest unofficial celebration of Heidelberg.
Thanks for your interest and viewing.
*A thing (Old Norse, Old English and Icelandic: þing; German, Dutch ding; modern Scandinavian languages: ting) was the governing assembly in Germanic societies and introduced into some Celtic societies, made up of the free people of the community and presided by lawspeakers, meeting in a place called a thingstead. Today, the term lives on in the official names of national legislatures and political and judicial institutions in the Nordic countries, in the Manx form tyn, as a term for the three legislative bodies on the Isle of Man, and in the English term husting.
