Description

Today's little nuisance. The ancient Electricity main in the road was decomposing and causing the lights to flicker next door. It took 9 men, 7 lorries and a car, and 8 hours today , 6 with the power off, but it is repaired. The man in my montage was the only one that I managed to photograph: he was not one of today's 9 but one of yesterday's 4! Luckily I have kept a kettle which I can put on the gas stove or open fire, so coffee wasn't off the menu.

Water was off yesterday - but I did not think to take photies of the repair crew (slightly fewer than your lot).

They certainly came mob handed, and that's why I keep a full cylinder of gas and the battery charged in the caravan

I hate power outages, they do rather tend to wake you up to the fact that our modern world is so dependent on electricity. I'd be like an amputee without the computer :) Typical jobsworth overkill there. I also have a gas whistling kettle, just in case :)

Blimey, a bit of a to do in your neck of the woods, A. We also get power outages, but they are often due to earthquakes, lightning strikes, or a vehicle somewhere slamming into a power pole. And lucky you; because of medical problems, I'm not allowed coffee, or tea, for that matter.

That's a good long stretch without any artificial noise; I'm always amazed during a power outage to realize how quiet it is when everything is truly off. Excellent series of captures here!

Yesterday I was running some errands and happened to see a crew doing something .. there were also 7 people, measuring something, and I think calculating the angle of handicapped access to sidewalk from street. No chance to get a photo as I was at a red light that was ready to turn green. All were in town road-crew uniforms. They were all standing around. At least you got some wonderful photos!

I have known times like this up here, few months back they had the road up outside here and put down new mains and boxes. I'm 100% electric now so if it goes down I have no heating, no means to cook.. I promised myself I would get one of those calor gas camping stoves as backup for any future events... still not got one. Tends to happen more during winter months, usually during heavy winds and storms but things have improved through the years, now it's once in a blue moon. Great captures.

Reminds me of an old Benny Hill line. "The workman fell off his shovel and compensation set in." A wonderful set of photos that tells the story. Your man seems to be a friendly fellow. Nice portrait. I noticed they are driving Mercedes trucks. Maybe that's why the rates are so high.

Great collage, Andrea!! I don't know if it is different here in Copenhagen, but they are fewer and work often very concentrated, maybe because of a shorttimeline?

It makes me glad to be living in the motorhome. We can be fully self-contained for quite a while before we have to hook up. Glad you took pictures! These things are always so interesting to me. I love to watch people work!
