Description

Natchez Trace Milepost 52.4 Yesterday we drove from Vicksburg, Mississippi down to Natchez, then up the Trace to Jackson, then back to Vicksburg. There are a lot of places to get out and hike, so we waited out two days of torrential rain before we made this drive. Apparently on any other day, this stop would not have been so memorable ... The sign said: Owens Creek The sounds of a busy woodland stream and the quiet murmur of a lazy waterfall have long been stilled here. Only after heavy rainfall does water fill the stream and set the waterfall singing. Over the years the water table has dropped several feet, and the spring which feeds Owens Creek has all but disappeared. Little remains of a scene once familiar to early residents of the Rocky Springs Community. United States Department of the Interior National Park Service

Sounds like perfect timing on your part. A beautifully serene scene & I especially like the shadows of the trees on the water...

Looks like your timing was perfect, Tara! Such a shame this lovely stream is dry most of the time.

Your deep shadows around the waterfall---deep blacks, I think---set everything else off, beautifully: the water falling, the beautiful caramel-ly water beneath, the greens on top/around, the reddish beige of the rock, etc: Fine seeing and fine work, Tara. And the deep caramel-like tones of the water set off the green above. Really well composed, and intimate too---ie, we're surrounded by that big dark-shadowed "hug". The South is definitely speaking to you, and you're doing a beautiful job bringing it to us...Restful and beautiful.
