Description
This is a re-post of an image I created back in 2005. This was created entirely in Bryce and, like both its predecessor (Castle in The Clouds) and its successor (Fairytale Castle, my signature image) was created using only cylinders, cones, cubes and spheres. This is not a model and uses no modeled parts or pieces. I don't think I'll ever do anything quite this ambitious again. Back in 2006 I upgraded my Poser to v6 and decided to get serious and learn the program. At that time I also set Bryce aside and focused completely on Poser. But recently I was looking at some of my Bryce images and decided to re-render some of them at a larger size. Back in '05 I was using a Mac G4 with a single processor and because the mountain behind the castle has some transparency the render (992 pixels wide) was as large as the computer would handle and that small image still required several hours to complete.
Today I'm using a Mac Pro 8 core and so have the power needed to render this image at 3968 pixels. My original idea was to recreate the original image but just at a larger size. And then I began to look at it and decided to make some changes which I did. So this image was rendered in Bryce 7 Pro using the trees from the successor image. The mushrooms and the elf knight errant were rendered in Poser 8. The waterfall is from a photo I shot while visiting The Grand Canyon of The Yellowstone. The original three images called Castle in The Clouds, Aglarond and Paranor can be viewed in my Renderosity gallery.
Created in Bryce 7 Pro and Poser 8 with post work in Ps.
