Description

The Spirit of Tasmania travels between Melbourne and Tasmania. In this photo, she is being buffeted by gale force winds, and is leaning heavily to her port side. I was struggling to stand up just to take this photo!!!!! She is about to enter 'The Rip', which is an extremely treacherous piece of water that separates her from the Port of Melbourne. This area is littered with shipwrecks. The distant tower to the right is The Point Lonsdale Lighthouse. Please zooooooom.

Glad you stayed upright to get this shot; it's quite compelling. The bar going into Humboldt Bay is also treacherous, though fortunately, NOT littered with shipwrecks!!

Isn't it amazing that the wind, while so strong, isn't even apparent in the shot? Wonderful capture!

Ah! Memories of Dover and storms.. They used to 'park' the ferries of Deal (where I lived) until the storms calmed enough as they couldn't get into port! lol Poor passengers! Lovely shot Rob
