Description
Agent John Curtis cupped the Smith & Wesson Mag-Laser in his hands, held just above his shoulder, ready to fire at a moment's notice. FRD-14, or Freddy Fourteen, Curtis' trusty Helix III robot partner, was not programmed to simulate human emotions, but Curtis could hear the soft whirring of sensors repeatedly scanning the tunnel, almost as if Freddy were nervous.
"Anything?" Curtis asked.
"There is a residual heat signature 20.7 yards ahead," the 'bot said matter-of-factly. "There appear to be footprints in the sand beginning 5.3 yards ahead and continuing beyond scanner range."
"All right, then," Curtis replied with some enthusiasm. All the talk among his fellow agents about this Lynx had gotten Curtis' nerves on edge. But if he could track the suspect this easily, then bagging him shouldn't be hard. "This isn't going to be so tough after all."
A sudden twitching of Freddy's big shock gun caught Curtis' attention. "What is it?"
The bot turned to face his partner. "Analysis of the footprints has yielded ... unexpected results."
"How so?" the agent asked.
"The suspect's stride does not fall within normal parameters for a human being."
"You're saying we're chasing an animal? Or a robot?" Curtis responded.
"Results do not fall within parameters for any known animal or mechanism."
The agent was surprised and a little annoyed. Sometimes, getting a straight answer from Freddy was like pulling teeth. "So what do you think we're following here?"
The 'bot leaned closer to his partner. "Something else. ..."
Agent Curtis played by P4 Man. Freddy played by my Helix III robot, available in the Marketplace. Props used include the DAZ sofa, Virtual Forest trees and miscellaneous props by yours truly. Except for the trees, all textures and backdrops are by me, mostly made in Bryce.
