Description

Spoiler Alert. Artist is about to attempt to explain this image. I lived with a chimpanzee a long long time ago, when I was in the Peace Corps. It was a like living with a three year old who had the physical prowess of an Olympic gold medal gymnast. It was a very unique experience, but has absolutely nothing to do with the image per se. The image is about “Mindfulness”, a reoccurring theme of mine. Lindsay is shown engaged in simple everyday activities – drinking a cup of coffee, talking on the phone, and petting her cat – all activities most of us perform on autopilot, with our attention focused elsewhere. But, when the image was done, it was clear to me that the composition was out of balance, because my eye kept wandering to the blank space just above the computer screen. What to do? What to do? So I decided to put a chimpanzee in that spot. What else.? Thanks for viewing

Visually it works for me quite nicely. Philosophically and metaphysically it opens up a whole new can of worms! I love it when the viewer takes pause and that quizzical looks comes upon them and in their mind they are saying "What the hell?" If nothing else you are making them think! Nice job "X".
