Historically, fixed fortifications of this type have been, for the most part, a waste of resources. Few were ever fired in anger and no such defenses ever stood up to a determined naval assault.

Wow! I have never seen one of these live and upfront! What a humongous destroyer piece! I can't imagine how much it weighs... and looks so intact, and in the most perfect condition...ready as ever to inflict damage! Yikes!
