Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

A wonderful slice of life. She looks like a tough, no-nonsense, woman.

A great candid but how I hate those ciggies.

Great capture of a snapshot in day to day life, nobody would want to get on the wrong side of that woman of that I'm sure. Was it a swift retreat after pressing the shutter button?. :-)

Great candid! I would say the set of her mouth is more about her having just taken a mouthful of coffee than anything else. I wonder what her expression was five or ten seconds later?

A wonderful people study and when my Mom looked at me like that - I knew I was in trouble for something!

Amazing capture, caught the smoke at the right time!!

Smoking just about anywhere is a thing of the past around here, which I think is good.

The black and white zeroes in on her intensity, and you cropped it close too, so we move right into her 'being'. She's one serious coffee drinker (at least in the capture). This piece shows her with companion, and he's blowing smoke: In the non-zoomed version it looks like a smear of old paint on the bricks; but in the zoomed, bingo, he's smoking! You couldn't have chosen a better accent between them if you'd made one yourself. She's a mountain of a lady in this piece, looks like someone who ain't gonna budge until she's damned-well finished, and she's got a lot of character in those eyes and furrows. And such a kid-like hat too! Really strong capture---gotta love that expression. Another fine candid from you Andrea.
