I started studying with the intention of working in film or television animation, with a focus on writing and project development. However as my studies prgressed I found myself more drawn to the artistic side of the process. I became a highy skilled 3ds Max user, with an emphasis on modeling, lighting and rendering. I also got a good understanding of Flash animation, Photoshop, film editing in Adobe Premiere and some vector art skills. Most of the first year was based around film theory, including dissecting films, tv and radio plays. Constructing story and structure, storyboarding, producing, directing and editing, sound design and post production.
After completing the 2 year HND course, I was granted entry straight into the 3rd year (degree year) of a 3D Animation course where I had to learn new software, including Lightwave 9, After Effects and continue my artistic development in a number of additional traditional and digital art modules. These included life drawing, VFX and life action flm. I increased my knowledge of 3ds Max on my own time, and mostly used that software to complete my coursework.
By the end of the course I has decided to persue a career as a 3D generalist with emphasis on modeling for VFX, animation or architectural visualisation. I also looked at getting into working in video games. However due to family commitments and bringing up my first child I was unable to persue my chosen career path for several years. During that time I continued, on and off, to improve my skills and keep up to date with the lastest advances, including completing Digital Tutors course on Maya, Mudbox, Vue, After Effects, Composite and Nuke.
Now that I find myself with more time to study, I am throwing myself back into the fold. I plan to improve my skills even more, master the lastest software and learn the professional workflows that the big studios use, improve my artistic skills and be relentless in my overall aim to use these skills to gain employment in the career of my dreams.
