Description
Done originally for Imagine FX issue 100, I recently repainted quite a bit of the piece and decided it’s about time to show this one
Done in Photoshop from start to finish, with help of refs and peanut M&Ms. The full painting process was recorded and can be seen on that IFX 100’s DVD. And oh, if you want to check out the details, here is a FACE CLOSE UP!
And about the piece itself: The task was to tackle a common subject of a “fantasy female”. Quite a challenge, since pretty much everything has already been done before within this theme. My idea to handle it was using contrasts – both in terms of depicted elements, colors, lighting etc. I love clashing opposite things so, in this regard, I consider this one a very personal piece…
I had a blast working on it and hope you enjoy it too.

I definitely enjoy it, and see why you are so invested in it. There's a pleasant ethereal quality to her, from expression to pose to soft glow. I love the way the floating pink flowers give it a pop of color that helps bring the focus to her face. I've got to be honest, though. As much as I enjoy this, the one thing that doesn't work is the hands pulling at her. For some reason they seem more surreal, and that is at odds with the otherwise realistic (though idealized) approach used in the rest of the painting. This is a minor point, but for me, they just don't add to the story the way that, perhaps, some fairies or butterflies might. This is just a personal preference, mind you. I'm VERY impressed with this image -- thanks for posting.

So soft and gorgeous. Beautiful.

I love it...she looks all soft and sweet---but underneath, Ondine had that "woman scorned" thing going pretty tough. She's beautiful...not as benevolent as some may think, but absolutely stunning all the same.

I love this. I saw 'Ondine' and got curious (I am playing a changeling water queen named Ondine in a LARP down here who is actually a water lotus). Your image is very close to how I see her. Long white hair, flowing clothes, pale, petal like skin.... breathtaking

My first thought was also 'ethereal', but I don't understand the purpose of all the hands trying to pull her down.

I love everything about this. The hair i gorgeous with the bright glowing flowers. The hands grasping at her gown from the water. The contrast in color and content is perfect. Extremely beautiful work of art.
