Description
Rome, the church of St. Mary of the angels was renewed by Michelangelo, but basically it remains the central hall of the baths of Diocletian, and toghether with the Pantheon it is the building that gives the best idea of what roman architecture looked like in its heyday. The image in the thumbnail is a detail from upper right in the photo, a hole in the wall that worked as a solar clock, in combination with a bronze dial on the church floor. Inaugurated in 1702, it was the timepiece that defined noon for the city and its inhabitants.
