Again, your textures have gotten more and more painterly, as in physical-medium paint, and it's a joy to see them take over any number of your images. But it isn't that they look like physical paint, per se, it's that they look physical, period. Rough and visceral and touchable. The rose petals here have all kinds of rushing eddies and flows and corpulent tides and such. Your furrows and folds are beginning to be almost abstract, not in the 'cold' sense, but in the sense of pure texture, hue, etc. The unicorn is prancing through a formidable landscape, one that both embraces him but also towers over him with its power. It's a loving power too, not foreboding---another thing I've noticed in your works, you get real power in a number of your images, but they are embracing power more than destructive power. And you've done this with heavy peach/oranges and dabs of purples, reds, ambers...a lot of a family or two (family of colors), a 'tonal' piece. I've been impressed for a while with how much variety you get with a single hue family; this is a prime example of it. It's not to say there aren't other families present, but that you can stay with one through a large patch of a piece, and still get much variety in hue. There are lights dropping throughout, almost as if this is an iced dessert, and the moon is big and bright as a sunlit night. With touches of deep reds and purples for depth, this is a multi-layered piece, enchanted and quite visceral...with a sense (almost) of an arctic vision of great light and play, playing itself upon a primal expanse. Maybe where life begins and will soon send its seeds elsewhere...Magical.
