Elle devait être quelque part dans cette ville dans un lieu dont elle seule a le secret...
Moi je ne voyais que cette lumière brisée en mille éclats à la surface de l'eau... j'étais perdu...
Mon esprit était ailleurs, il y avait le clapotis de cette eau, le grincement du bois des gondoles contre les pontons.
Derrière moi la rumeur de la foule était comme étouffée...
Comme si les remous de la lagune portaient mon âme et que mon esprit ne percevait qu'une partie de la réalité...
Les quelques marches de marbre blanc sur lesquelles j'étais assis rayonnaient une douce chaleur et le monde était comme arrêté...

My spirit was somewhere else, there was a lapping of this water, the grating of the wood of gondolas against pontoons.
Behind me the rumour of the crowd was as suffocated...
As if the bustles of the lagoon carried my soul and as if my spirit perceived only a part of the reality...
Some stairs of white marble on which I sat shone a sweet heat and the world was as stopped...
