Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

both of my dogs hates birds and I was concerned about the robin nest on my building. I moved a fence temporary in case one of the 4 babies fell out on the ground

Ralph is a lurcher so it's in his breed, lurchers were bred for speed and intelligence.. if I'm not mistaken they originated from Ireland for the original purpose of hunting. They tend to be loyal and indeed intelligent dogs.. and they can really have a burst of speed, I bet when the lead comes off he can really shift but as with the Munsterlanders which are German gundogs they will have their moments like this. Bet the squirrel wish he had moved a bit faster up a tree.. the WP on the other hand probably has a new tail by now if he hasn't fallen victim to cat or bird of prey. Dramatic shots.

impressive and interesting shots Andrea

Naughty Ralphie, didn't even hide poor squirrel. Munsters are not supposed to kill their game just hunt & retrieve :0).

Superb captures and collage Andrea. God bless.

Grey squirrels have become a real problem in London, around my area they are as prevalent as the rats and mice our lazy good for nothing council do little about. Can I borrow him for a week :)

nature happens sometimes, even with Ralphy
jayfar
You can't nature out their gut instincts! Nice pics.

A sad image since I am quit fond of squirrels. Troublesome since it appears Ralph likes to kill for the sport.

If ralph wants to sort out my rabbit problem he's most welcome .

Aww, poor baby, he was just going with his instincts. I do feel for the squirrel, though!

Hunting instinct...irrepressible!

Nature, red of tooth and claw. Ralphie isn't exactly discreet in his killing methods. And being a dog, he has the advantageous of not feeling remorseful, and blame it on his genes.
moochagoo
Give him some rabbits :) :)

Give Ralph a break - remember the thousands of years of hunting that they were bread for. Also remember that he drove off a few a few years ago. I love the feather photo!
