Description
This is what drought looks like.
These reed gardens once stood in three feet of water but are now dry kindling. The birds that once used this marsh as a stopover on their migrations are gone. Skunk, opossum and raccoon have also disappeared. On my visit I couldn’t even find one insect.
Whether you believe climate change is man-made or natural, it is real. The entire state of California is now under a drought emergency. The Southwest has been in the grip of drought for years. Meanwhile tornados have grown in frequency and strength in the Southern states. Last week 159 tornadoes tore through a wide swath of the United States from Louisiana to Virginia killing thirty-five people. Over twenty inches of rain fell in Western Florida in less than twenty-four hours. The city of Pensacola was underwater for two days.
It seems foolish not to do everything we can to mitigate the effects of climate change. The Earth will survive even if we don’t.

While I agree with you about the cause and effects as well as the affects, when you have politicians in the back pockets of industries that add to the situation, then we are doomed. This is a stark reminder of man's inhumanity to Mother Earth. Great commentary in this photo - Damn! I wish I could say more....

Not easy to solve this problem when everyone craves the energy obtained from burning fossil fuels and much of Asia feels entitled to a "free pass" because they are "developing" economies. The ultimate solution will work correctly...the Earth will expel mankind!

Horrific. I expect there are invertebrates, nature doesn't do vacuums. You'll need a hand lens....

I was casting about for a title and then I remembered your comment from yesterday. Thanks for the idea.

Amazing. Climate change is real, all right. Everywhere we've been on this trip (14 states so far, with 3 left to go), everyone has said, "this is the weirdest weather we've ever had ... it's just not normal!"

Stark Mark and a bit depressing...not your commentary, but the facts of the case. Water...too little or too much...rarely do we seem to get it just the way we need it or want it.
