Hi, My name is Bill and I am updating my homepage to reflect a wonderful event in my life...marriage, September 18, 2010, to my best friend Tara...known to many of you as auntietk here on Renderosity.
We "met" shortly after I joined Renderosity in August 2008. We share a love for photography and indeed all types of art.
We live north of Seattle and enjoy getting to share photographic excursions and information with other Renderositians ( is "Renderositians" even a word? ). LOL
As for me, it seems like I've been taking pictures all my life but I didn't get serious enough to purchase my first Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera until May 2008. In May 2009 I upgraded from an Olympus E-510 to an Olympus E-30 with a wide variety of lenses.
My subject areas of interest include absolutely everything but with a frequent return to airplanes, cars, tanks, etc., ...or as Tara says, machines that make lots of noise;-)
If you are curious, I am pictured above in a Grumman Corsair on a taxiway of the Kansas City Downtown Airport. I used to fly and train others to fly airplanes. That will explain my frequent forays into the world of aviation. Last but by no means least, thanks to Pannyhb for introducing me to Renderosity. The moment I saw it I was hooked.
Fine print: Yes, the photo above is a photo manipulation:-)

Great shot Bill!

When real men built eh? It all computers and robots now, and have you noticed like me that all the stuff designed and built by machines is long gone after a decade or so and has no history like the old hand made stuff? Nice POV buddy.

This really is an astonishing shot. For one, the pov is terrific. Okay, that's nice. But OMG ... the yellow!!! Yellow is SUCH a tough color to shoot. In general, it's too bright, the details get devoured and it looks a mess. You've managed to get light and shadow, detail and reflections, and not a single blown out bit to be found. Seriously outstanding!

Excellent POV, colors and clarity, Bill. Although antique, these beauties look in way better condition than any of the old decrepit graffiti-adorned cars that go rumbling by in my neck of the woods.

I can see you like to keep your viewers riveted, Bill! This is an awesome capture! Like Tara said, yellow can be a challenge to shoot, and this is so lifelike. Perfect exposure and a really fun shot! I like it!

A great POV and I like this a lot Bill.

Good POV of that old train.

A riveting photo of you follow the lines of rivets with the eyes. Nice to see those old heavy weight cars again. Thick plates riveted together making for a sturdy construction but a heavy car, requiring 6 wheels in each truck, and brakes on each wheel. I remember riding in these types of cars in the 1950s to and from New York, and when the stainless steel (corrugated sides) streamline cars replaced the heavy weights. Those were exciting times. Thanks for waking up old memories! :-)

Looks like you were hanging out of a baggage car shooting this one; what a great POV and superbly-detailed photo! I love the yellow and the rivets, and especially the fact that there isn't any grafitti on these cars! Spectacular shot, Bill, bravo!

Great POV Bill, kind of reminds me somewhere lol (Atichson - think I spelt that correct mate) The rivets are lovely, does that sound weird! lol Good one! Rob

Great comments here, and tara called it "seriously outstanding". Denise wondered if you weren't hanging out of a car, shooting this. You got a helluva pov. And Rob said the rivets are lovely---"does that sound weird lol" That's the thing, isn't it: It DOES sound weird, but that's what we're supposed to do---find or make beauty out of mere rivets. And yeah, yellow of this caliber is tough to work with. But you got the yellows with real depth here, but also the beautiful red trim, and the beautiful highlights in the wheels and other stuff on the bottom. ("Other stuff on the bottom," btw, is in most train manuals. A technical term...) This is about rivets, but also about their musical interplay across shiny surfaces. And about the indentations of windows and doors along the way. A simple shot but very complex, and a real beauty, bill. (And is the opposite of seriously outstanding "I was just joking"? Or "it's actually abominable...I may puke...") This is seriously wonderful: You capture trains and cars with total ease.
