From my 1984 West Coast trip, the Coast Guard lighthouse at Cape Head, near Ilwaco, Washington ..."After driving all day, I park the van, grab the cameras and head down a path that appears to lead to the beach, taking a silhouette picture of trees against the sky along the way. When the path turns to the right and then ends, I just cannot believe my eyes at what I see before me. I am not at the beach, but instead up on a cliff, several hundred feet above the crashing surf. There's an enormous lighthouse just a few feet away and a ship is passing by on the ocean. The sun is now on the verge of touching the horizon and the clouds in the sky have turned burning orange and bright purple from it's setting light. I stand there totally awed by this sight for about a minute until it dawns on me that if I do not get my camera out right now and take a shot of this, it will soon be gone forever..."
