Description

Yes is is dieing out slowly. The Cajun culture used to have lot of people who could speak french. no not the french like in France but is was a french. I met a man my age and he told me at six year old he went to school and he just knew french. the teachers would get after him if he spoke french. it was hard on him and many other kids. They got whip or got a ruler across the back of the hand. So they had to learn English. Now there is a small movement to teach people french here but it not going well. even the Cajun music is fading slowly into history. this is four feet by four feet acrylic painting . this is what i been painting and just finish it about 45 minutes ago.. it is close to the colors. I do not have a car to bring it to the place I most the time bring to take my photos. Guess i need to set up a place here at my house. note the sign on the left and also the window which have a sunset in it . plus the music note stand which do not have any paper on it. oh and the man is not reflex in the widow

Superb painting Jock! I think your work just gets better and better! I love this one, and the detail you put into it. As for the Cajun Culture, it's a doggone shame that cultures disappear as they are absorbed and the young don't learn the traditions and the languages and the ways. I have a friend who is American Indian, and she was taken away from her parents and put into boarding school as child along with her siblings. They were taught English, were punished (yes, including whippings) if they were caught speaking their native tongue or taking part in any of their native culture. Now a lot of the language and history has been lost, and there is a movement to try to recapture a lot of the lost ways and teach the kids and even adults the lanugage that is still remembered. Sigh. So this is truly a wonderful image Jock, both in the talent you display in capuring the essence of the people and the music, and in reminding us how important it is to remember and use the languages and cultures so they don't get lost in the mists of time.

This is truly one of your finest works, Jock! It's easy to see you put your heart into this, my friend! Such a sad thing that the Cajun culture is diminishing - It's a loss for the whole country. It's a part of our history..

Oh, terrific. As always, your brushstrokes just rush across the surface with real power and music. Your greens are deep and luscious, you have wonderful reds in the accordion, and those rich browns in the musician's shirt. Beautiful blues in his pants, too, and that beautiful sunset in the background---a painting within a painting. The reflection of the chair is like a piano keyboard. And the window meets with the man's head, bringing the worlds together...You caught the posture of a musician playing, with his head turned to the music stand (even though there's no music there), and so much expression in his fingers---you really know the language of fingers, on a musician. A terrific painting, just terrific. And as for the lost culture, it does happen more and more, doesn't it...modern global communications are just wiping out local art and cultures, and their languages are disappearing along with many other parts of those old unique worlds. I've heard Cajun spoken, though I can't speak a word of it; and it's unique. Paintings like this help preserve the culture. And this painting is filled with passionate hues and strokes...It's just a wonderful piece of art, Jock---which is what you create each time you pick up the brush.

As far as I can judge, this is one of your most beautiful paintings, in any case, I am very impressed with your painting, and especially for this top artists work, Jocko. Formidable, really! How sad that these Cajun people were beaten because of their cultural language. I hope this culture will be continued, and will go from father to son, from mother to daughter, so it will never die.
