Description
One of our cats, Peanut, was sitting by our front door late in the afternoon when this young buck wandered by & approached her. She's usually pretty skittish around large animals, but didn't seem at all bothered this time. She & the buck just kind of checked each other out for several minutes while my wife & I watched from our deck. The buck eventually moved on, but he stayed around our yard for quite awhile. Though he clearly saw us watching him (& me snapping photos) from a few feet away, he just wandered casually around our yard sampling the leaves of various bushes. We get a lot of deer around here, but they generally leave pretty quickly when they detect humans watching them, so this one's brazen fearlessness was pretty unusual...

What a sweet little guy; wonder if someone's been feeding him and that's why he wasn't frightened? That could be a problem later if so...fantastic capture of the meeting of feline and cervine!

very nice meeting of the two, and they both seem fine with each other, even as they check each other out. I mean, there's no sign of aggression in either, they're just investigating quietly. Very nice moment. And I like the framing, with shadow all around them. And the really interesting intersections of concrete, stones, trees/bushes, etc. A sweet shot. (In recent years, deer have made their way into the Chicago suburbs, being much calmer and more unafraid than they'd been in years prior. Perhaps because no one hurt them, and they got food. They actually became a problem, though, because they ate people's gardens. Still, there's something wonderful about looking out a window and seeing a deer that close to a huge city. It must be sweet to see them often, where you live...)

A spectacular capture of this tender moment between the two strangers. I would have this blown up and hanging on the wall. Just a delightful photo of this amazing moment!
