Description

Somewhere along the line I developed an interest in water connections in cities. Big cities like Chicago have three or four inch connections that stick right out of the side of the buildings. They're invariably brass and classy and understated. Fire hydrants are different everywhere, as well. When I started looking for them, I realized what I had always considered to be "standard" was only standard in the county in which I lived! This is a cover plate for a water connection in Hammond, Louisiana. It's for a connection on the side of a bilding. I love the picture of the faucet. For some reason I didn't think to lift the flap and check. That only occurred to me after I was long gone!

Don't ask me why, but...... I have this really silly mental image of you lifting the flap and getting squirted on the forehead..... Too many hours watching the 3 Stooges, probably...LOL Aside from that, it's a wonderful, fun capture, Tara. It amazes me how you see so many cool things most of us just walk by without noticing.

This is rather intriguing. I had never considered that fire hydrants and other such installations had little or no standardization. Maybe its different in Canada. But that has got to be a serious challenge for emergency services. This connection looks well used. You can get an excellent subjective feel for a city's history just by studying its infrastructure such as this.

I Googled MIFAB. This appears to be one of their access doors. The coupling is most likely under this. This a wonderful discovery. I like the faucet on the cover for those who have no clue.

I get mad at myself, when hours later, I think of something I should have done :P fun shot, and the first thing I noticed was the picture of the faucet. Nicely done.

Excellent shot and story, Tara :). Ours are not connected to any building. They are standing in the street and they are mostly painted red.

Again, it's so cool how you find the common most mundane thing and turn it into art.

Oh, what a cool find! I never even thought about things like that. Now I'll have to keep my eyes open, of course I'm not the road warrior you two are. Great capture!

Indeed, this 'mifab' is interesting, especially the image of the crane, with its colors, as well as the colors around it. A very special object to study. And now I'm thirsty LOL!

I especially feel intimate with this, because it played a bigger role in my blend of your images than any other image. (The blacks and whites were centered on this---and I mention that because those blacks and whites really absorbed me, as I was so taken by this image.) It's terrific because not only is the big black cover dark and foreboding; but you have that wonderful blue mold or decay on the bottom which you brought out wonderfully. Then the concentric rectangles are each very strong and loaded with irregularity---like a painting from Rothko or Jasper Johns---and that terrific brick is all around it. It's an abstract from 1980s New York! I love this shot! The colors are so vivid and contrasting, the decay is luscious, I luuuuv that day-glo blue mold on the cover, and the center of the shot---the cover---is all dark, brooding and even scary. I even like the logo---a mess and wonderfully discolored by peeled paint. This is a prime shot, Tara, terrific work! It's a big bold splash shot, like a slap of sloppy metal and brick in the face. A sloppy joe of the water-cover set. (And btw, I love Rod's comment about being squirted in the face---the 3 Stooges, lol. I thought, when seeing it, of lifting the cover and a little guy barks, "how ya doin'!" and he slams the cover shut.) Well I'm past 90 minutes, Tara, and I've done around 9 images. I have to stop and sleep. Wonderful journey. That's the big advantage of "catching up," I get to saturate myself in your work. Hope you have a fine Sunday, you two!!!
