Description

Mission San Juan Capistrano San Antonio, Texas December, 2013 I posted another view of this bell tower the other day, which was all about the architecture and how it stands out against the sky. This one is softer and all about the light, and I'd like to think it conveys more of the spiritual function of the building.

It's a beautiful building. I can just hear the bells ringing and the play of soft light against the bells gives it a mysterious feeling.

For me it's still about the shapes against that endless blue sky, but the light has also become a real participant in the shot. You can't take a bad shot of this place!

The way you've captured this really imparts a spiritual feeling, indeed, Tara! The way the light plays through the openings where the bells are - and the soft glow that surrounds the structure is just perfect! Excellent!

Classic mission architecture. The light is superb. It gives the bell enclosures an ethereal glow.

Yeah, this really is different from the other one. It feels softer, for one. And yet it has real clarity. The kind the comes from a softer surface which then shows itself more clearly, as a result. The soot and discolorations of the stone are like polished marble, here---they're just everrrrr so slightly translucent. And the deepest light is "inside"---not on the front surface, but in the arches, behind the bells, etc. Something that intimates light from beyond...it's on every angled surface. And the sky is lighter and more luminous somehow. And brightest at the bottom. (And such a smooth sky!) A real beauty, it was perfect for your blend, and as a bell tower it's beneficent, gentle and glowing. Really fine work on this beautiful old tower. And yes, it does feel more spiritual!
