Description

but do you have any breakfast?" I was up at sparrow-fart this morning to do the late season Breeding Bird Survey on the cliff. It was even more of an avian desert than usual, as it was dull, damp and even drizzled for the second half. The Lower gardens are full of extremely tame Grey Squirrels and if I had thought to take some food I could have drawn quite a crowd! This one was very disappointed.

Although my German wife can speak very good English, the word squirrel is something she is unable to pronounce. Fantastic shot here!!!

I know what Ronnie will say about these guys, but I love them. They have the sweetest little expressions, and I their hands/feet are amazing. I wish I was half as coordinated as they are. Wonderful portrait of the poor starving rodent!

Great shot. Perfect focus on the eyes but also a very large depth of field to. The pose is perfect, you can see the tension, as he is a split second from bolting if you reached out to him bare handed.

Denise knows me well eh? Vermin with a capital V. The reason I don't like these is because of the effect their introduction had on our own indigenous red squirrel population, we now have a situation where our own reds are scarce, but these greys are all over the place. I had plums and raspberries in the garden, all they did was feed these bloody things. But I wouldn't hurt them, and I certainly take good ops like this to shoot them (With a camera before someone writes in ) Excellent shot of the hopeful little alter-rat Andrea.

Given most animals mistake a camera iris as an eye that squirrel has some stones to stare straight into it! Great photo.

That's a wonderful shot, I think in the uk we have area's specific for Red Squirrels where there are no grey's as there is a virus the grey's can give to the Red's if I'm not mistaken and so grey's have grown in population and dominated a greater percentage of the country. Even with the grey's we can see a little hint of red in them too. Such nimble creatures.

I assume Ralph was no where around. Outstanding portrait. Too bad you had no reward for it. Do sparrows fart?

Love the technical term for the crack of dawn i can't stop laughing, Tree rats very pretty but likely the reason why the bird population is dropping as they will eat the eggs and even chicks and one even bit a friend who tried to remove one from her garden.

Oh my gosh, Andrea, I am rolling on the floor, laughing, tears in my eyes!! you were up at sparrow-fart?? OMG!! I cannot stop giggling!! Thank you for this one .. I am definitley incorporating it into my vocabulary!! We have the grey squirrels and the red ones. We also have pockets of black squirrels, which are nothing more then greys which are nothing more then melanistic varieties of the grey ones. This is an awesome and totally delightful capture!!
